Boston’s Best Winter Activities

When snow falls on Boston and the cold weather settles in the air, the city turns into a magical winter wonderland adorned with twinkle lights and gas lamps. While the chill in the air may seem frightful, our bundled up guests know that Boston has a lot to offer during the holiday season.

If you’re traveling to Boston this season, here are some of our city’s best winter activities:

Boston Winter Wonderland at City Hall Plaza. Come in for a cup of hot cocoa and a Belgium waffle and peruse the many stalls and vendors that line City Hall Plaza for Boston’s first “Boston Winter” showcase.

Stroll through Beacon Hill. Boston’s most historic neighborhood is a walk through time during the holidays. Bundle up and take a stroll through the gas lamp-lit streets, paying special attention to the carefully crafted holiday decorations that adorn the historic brownstones.

Take in a show. While you’re in town, grab tickets to The Boston Ballet’s The Nutcracker, The Blue Man Group or Disney on Ice. Our concierge can help arrange tickets and pre-show reservations at nearby restaurants.

Boston Brewery Tour. Taste-test a few different brews from nearby Sam Adams Brewery or Harpoon Brewery. (Tip: Don’t miss the fresh baked pretzels at Harpoon, served with your choice of dipping sauce!)

Grab a seat for a game. No matter which team you root for, sports fans will enjoy a few hours watching the Celtics, Bruins or New England Patriots. Check with our concierge about tickets to the games.

Take a holiday cruise. Some of the best views of Boston are from the water. Take a Boston Harbor cruise around the city and don’t forget to bring your camera! We suggest a sunset or evening cruise so you get a glimpse of the city lit up for the holidays.

Ski some nearby slopes. If you’re an avid outdoors fan, head to one of the nearby ski resorts for the best in winter activities. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, there’s something for everyone in New England. As our concierge for recommendations to the best ski resort, based on your preferences.

If you’re in Boston for New Year celebrations, don’t miss out on First Night Boston activities. Taking place around Copley Square, Boston Common and on Boston Harbor, First Night Boston hosts a variety of entertainment options for all ages. This day-long, alcohol-free event features ice sculptures, fireworks, crafts, performances, entertainers, and a grand parade filled with costumed entertainers.

Check into XV Beacon for a special New Year’s Eve offer.
